Eco Centrum Universitas Indonesia reimagines a 25-hectare campus by asking: “How can we link the Crystal of Knowledge, Ul Library, and Ul Rectorate through a shaded, walkable landscape that softens their bold architecture?” In Depok, Indonesia, this design unifies these landmarks with curvilinear pedestrian and bicycle paths, keeping journeys under 200 meters and cooled by a 6.5-hectare rubber forest and diverse plantings.
Centered around Kenanga Lake, the Bioclimatic Tower anchors the network, doubling as an observation point and renewable energy hub with wind turbines and solar panels. Shaded pathways, lined with large trees and vibrant flowers, lower temperatures by 3-5°C, softening the buildings’ stark forms. Six planting zones-forest walks to flower gardens
-create a lively, natural canvas, while open cafes, galleries, pavilions, fishing spots, and bookstores enliven the centrum, all spaced for easy access.
This superblock prioritizes walkers and cyclists, with water reservoirs enhancing the lake as a gathering spot. Simple yet dynamic, Eco Centrum blends connectivity, greenery, and creative programs to forge a sustainable, carbon-zero heart for Ul.
