Rumah Susilo is conceived from a hypothesis: “Can a home embody the owner’s passions for cycling, community, and creativity while integrating a poetic interplay of light and nature through its architectural form?” Designed as a vibrant, multi-functional residence, this house reflects the owner’s dynamic lifestyle, fostering connection across family, friends, and community through thoughtfully zoned spaces and a nature-inspired design.
The ground floor serves as the heart of the home, tailored to the owner’s love for cycling and social gatherings. A dedicated storage area houses a prized bicycle collection, seamlessly integrated with family-oriented spaces like a pantry, kitchen, and small service area. This level, encircled by a lush garden, creates an inviting environment for extended gatherings with relatives and friends, emphasizing warmth and connection. The upper floors cater to the younger generation, with spaces designed for their gatherings, while the topmost floor transforms into a communal hub for diverse activities. This uppermost level hosts church events, choir practice, music and art workshops, community lessons, discussions, and even orchestral activities, reflecting the family’s deep engagement with creative and spiritual pursuits.
The architectural language of Rumah Susilo draws inspiration from the philosophy of a leaf, with a towering form that culminates in a north-facing apex, designed to capture light and evoke a sense of imagination and poetic reflection. The western facade is shielded by shaded canopies, moderating heat while adding a rhythmic interplay of shadow and structure. These canopies, combined with the verticality of the design, create a striking silhouette that mirrors the organic elegance of a leaf reaching for light.
The northern orientation of the top floor’s imaginative space ensures soft, natural light floods the area, enhancing its role as a sanctuary for creativity and contemplation.
