Global Academy stems from a hypothesis: “Can a single building extension unify a growing institution’s ambitious demands while preparing it for the next decade?” Located in Serang, Indonesia, this five-story masterplan consolidates 65 diverse spaces to support a school’s long-term growth—blending education, vocational medical training, and community engagement within a cost-conscious IDR 3.5 million/m² framework.
The project was born out of urgency. The existing campus had reached full capacity, prompting the client to seek a dedicated extension—a vertical solution on a limited site. The result: a four-story building supported by a separate motorcycle parking structure, which also houses student-centric facilities. Maximizing the compact footprint, the design employs double-loaded corridors, orienting the building east-west to shield from solar heat while opening its north-south façades for ventilation and daylight.
At the ground level, a perforated base forms a welcoming lobby void, introducing light and spatial generosity. This level houses a clear zoning strategy: public-facing areas like the lobby, followed by organizational/administrative zones, and finally classrooms deeper within. This logic continues upward.
Above, the building accommodates 11 flexible classrooms to serve growing academic needs. The vocational core—focusing on nursing and midwifery—includes eight simulation rooms, two maternity wards, two gynecology suites, and consultation rooms, creating a real-world clinical environment for training. Twelve administration offices, four meeting rooms, and specialized support areas—including sterilization zones and medical records—ensure efficient operations. Two waiting rooms enhance accessibility for patient-roleplay scenarios and public engagement.
A series of internal bridges connect the academic and medical wings, while a student hub and motorbike ramp system ensure safe, segregated circulation—a nod to the transportation patterns of local students.
The building’s minimalist facade—clad in north- and south-facing low-heat glass—offers durability and efficiency without visual clutter. This not only controls heat gain, but delivers a sleek institutional identity at minimal cost.
Still in its conceptual phase, Global Academy presents a unified, future-ready vision: a vertical campus that transforms site constraints into opportunities—balancing technical training, spatial flexibility, and long-term institutional growth.
