Soccer, Hockey, and Archery Field emerges from a hypothesis: “Can a sports facility embody efficiency and simplicity through minimal structural elements while integrating landscape as its defining frontage?” Designed as a pro bono conceptual project within the Gelora Bung Karno complex this concept later on continued by other architect. This facility embraces the straightforward, unadorned architectural language of its surroundings—linear, boxy forms with no distinct stylistic flourish—while prioritizing functionality, rapid construction, and public accountability.
The design revolves around a skeleton architecture approach, using minimal columns to create open, flexible spaces. A single, robust hanging column system supports expansive, cantilevered canopies that shield against sun and rain, ensuring usability in all weather conditions. These canopies, inspired by the concept of a selasar (covered walkway), create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing accessibility and flow. The landscape and sports areas serve as the frontage, with lush greenery framing the facility to invite the public in, aligning with its role as a community-oriented space.
A dedicated foyer for archery greets visitors, leading into the main sports areas, designed with efficiency in mind. Each function—football, hockey, and archery—has its own stage and corridor, ensuring clear zoning and public accountability. The minimal-column structure not only reduces material use but also accelerates construction, aligning with the project’s fast-track ethos. The skeletal framework, built with simple materials like steel and concrete, allows for adaptability, as the concept is handed over to other architects for further development.
By blending a straightforward architectural language with a landscape-driven frontage and efficient structural design, Soccer, Hockey, and Archery Field delivers a functional, publicly accessible sports hub that symbolizes simplicity and resilience.
