51 – Eunoia House

Eunoia House, designed during the COVID-19 pandemic, emerges from a hypothesis: “Can a multi-generational home foster unity and shared passions through a dynamic spatial design that integrates landscape and family rituals?” This unique residence, home to three generations united by their love for badminton, reimagines domestic architecture as a promenade of experiences, blending functionality, cultural reverence, and environmental harmony.

The house is structured vertically to reflect the family’s generational dynamics. The ground floor serves as a communal hub for gatherings, anchoring the home’s social heart and housing the first generation’s living spaces. The upper floors accommodate the second and third generations, connected by a dramatic, double-height void that opens to a lush garden, creating a visual and emotional link across all levels. This void, oriented north-south, maximizes natural light and ventilation while framing views of the garden, which extends to a pool and casual seating areas for family bonding. The east-west facades are carefully shielded to minimize heat exposure, while the north-south faces feature expansive glass and water infiltration systems, allowing rainwater to seep directly into the earth, enhancing sustainability.

The top floor is a versatile sanctuary, housing a badminton court that celebrates the family’s shared hobby, a prayer room honoring ancestors, and an open-plan lounge for nighttime gatherings. The rooftop also features a “growing house” landscape, where greenery evolves with the family, symbolizing continuity and growth. The architectural journey begins with a promenade-style entry, guiding visitors through a sequence of small and large landscapes before revealing the grand, two-story living room void—a spatial crescendo that ties the home together.
